# Utility

#### Governance

Over time, Shift DeFi plans to transition to a DAO governance model. Once implemented, SHIFT will realize its full utility as the primary governance token of the protocol.

Token holders will be able to participate in key decisions that directly impact the protocol and its economic outcomes, including:

* Protocol management
* Treasury allocation
* Strategic partnerships

Users will be able to submit new proposals and vote on proposals submitted by others.

#### Value accrual

In many DeFi protocols, there is no clear or direct link between protocol revenue and token value. This often leads to weak value accrual dynamics:

* Tokens may offer limited direct benefit to holders
* Early pricing depend heavily on market makers rather than real demand

As a result, traditional DeFi token models can lack transparency and fail to establish durable value foundations, which, in turn, often leads to long-term price drawdowns.

SHIFT addresses this by drawing inspiration from traditional finance mechanisms that directly reward shareholders, such as dividends, buybacks, and reinvestment strategies.

The protocol introduces a clear and direct value flow from revenue to token holders, implemented as follows:

* Upon transferability, a liquidity pool will be launched, with protocol revenue used to provide liquidity.
* Ongoing protocol revenue will be directed to the treasury and later allocated via DAO governance
* Treasury management may include:
* Expanding liquidity in pools
* SHIFT token buybacks
* Incentives for external protocols, including SHIFT liquidity programs
* Payments for external collaborations (e.g., marketing, risk management)
* Funding further protocol development, including smart contracts and audits
* Other initiatives aligned with the interests of protocol participants

This model ties the value of the SHIFT token more directly to the protocol’s revenue generation capacity.

Overall, the approach is designed to create a more sustainable token economy, reducing reliance on speculative dynamics and helping mitigate excessive volatility and long-term value erosion commonly observed in DeFi tokens.
